Project Description
Do you want a quick and easy way to get more greens into your diet without having to eat them?
No, I’m not talking intravenous here! I’m talking about the beauty of green smoothies!
If you haven’t heard of them, they’re basically leafy greens like spinach, lettuce, Swiss chard, collards or kale blended into a smoothie with water and fruit to make them taste better.
There are lots of recipes with different kinds of fruit, but honestly, sometimes I’m just too lazy or in a hurry to wash, peel, de-seed and chop fruit, so I just use juice or even chocolate almond milk!
I find spinach blends up real creamy and has virtually no taste, so it’s great for beginners and kids. My Granddaughter has been drinking these since she was a toddler, and loves them. It’s a great way to get kids and veggie haters to ‘eat’ their veggies!
So basically, the ‘recipe’ is:
- Pour the desired amount of juice into a blender – approximately 1 1/2 – 2 cups per person
- Add a handful or so of greens per serving
- Put the lid on and blend the heck out of that sucker!
- Pour into a glass, drink and feel healthier already!
Some of the larger greens like collards, chard and kale should be de-stemmed and ripped or chopped up smaller first unless you have a scookum blender like a Vita-Mix or Blend-Tec.
Have fun and experiment. I literally throw greens in everything – protein shakes, plain and chocolate almond milk and juice.
I hope you’ll give green smoothies a try, they are so good for you. Warning, though, they can be a little ‘cleansing’. Not only does all that chlorophyll clean your blood, all that fiber cleans your bowels!
